Placencia Belize: A Lux Family Escape

A Lux Family Escape to Belize: Where to Stay & What to Expect

Belize is a dream destination for families seeking adventure, relaxation, and a touch of luxury—all while staying on budget. From the moment we landed to our beachfront villa experience, every aspect of our trip was thoughtfully planned to maximize comfort, convenience, and unforgettable memories with our twin boys.

Getting to Belize: Travel Tips for Families

We flew United Airlines from Newark Airport to Belize City, and if you're planning the same, here’s an insider tip: Belize’s airport does not have jetways, so be prepared to deplane using stairs. To make your exit as seamless as possible, opt for seats near the front or back of the plane since passengers deplane from both sides.

For parents traveling with little ones, having the right stroller is key. We brought our Uppa Baby Minu travel strollers, which are compact enough to fit in most airplane overhead compartments—an absolute game-changer for navigating airports and beyond.

The Drive to Placencia

Upon arrival, we rented a car and took the scenic drive down to Placencia, a charming coastal village known for its stunning beaches and laid-back vibe. The drive itself is an adventure, offering glimpses of Belize’s lush landscapes, small villages, and friendly locals.

Where We Stayed: Nana Resort and Spa

For our stay, we checked into Nana Resort and Spa, an incredible family-friendly resort that blends luxury with the beauty of Belize’s natural surroundings. We opted for a two-bedroom beachfront villa with a private pool, and it was nothing short of spectacular.

Why We Loved It:

  • Private Pool Perfection – Instead of using the resort’s main pool, we reveled in the convenience of stepping right out of our villa’s back door into our own private pool, all while enjoying panoramic ocean views.

  • Spacious & Family-Friendly – With two bedrooms, the villa gave us plenty of space to spread out, making it ideal for families traveling with kids.

  • Beachfront Bliss – Nothing beats waking up to the sound of waves and having direct beach access just steps away.

Food & Service: A Culinary Delight

The food at Nana Resort and Spa was excellent. We ordered room service for breakfast and lunch, and each meal was fresh, flavorful, and authentically Belizean. For dinner, we dined at 1981 Restaurant, where every dish was a masterpiece of bold flavors and locally sourced ingredients. From fresh seafood to traditional Belizean dishes, every bite was a treat for the taste buds. The service was impeccable, making us feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout our stay.

Island Hopping Adventure

One of the highlights of our trip was an island-hopping tour that the hotel helped us organize. They arranged a private boat excursion for a full-day adventure, allowing us to explore the breathtaking islands off the coast of Placencia.

First Stop: King Lewey’s Island

Our first destination was King Lewey’s Island. I had visited this little island as a child before it was inhabited, and it was surreal to return. Developed in 2016, it is now a beautiful eco-resort with a unique charm. We specifically chose this island for its children’s playground and highly praised cuisine.

Let me tell you—the food lived up to the hype! The island’s chef prepared the most delicious lobster I’ve ever had. I’ve dined at James Beard Award-winning restaurants, but nothing compares to an island girl cooking fresh lobster in the middle of the ocean!

The kids had an absolute blast playing and swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and the island’s serene beauty was simply stunning.

Second Stop: Moho Caye

Next, we made our way to Moho Caye, a somewhat deserted little island that felt like our own private paradise. With crystal-clear waters and amazing coral reefs for snorkeling, this spot was pure magic. One of our twins was so relaxed, he actually fell asleep in a hammock, swaying gently in the ocean breeze. It was the perfect peaceful moment to soak in the natural beauty surrounding us.

Why Belize is Perfect for Family Travel

Belize offers the perfect balance of relaxation and adventure for families. Whether you’re exploring the barrier reef, visiting ancient Mayan ruins, or simply enjoying the tropical beaches, there’s something for everyone. Plus, its affordability compared to other Caribbean destinations makes it even more attractive for luxury family travel on a budget.

Final Thoughts

Our experience at Nana Resort and Spa set the bar high for family travel in Belize. From seamless travel logistics to a villa that felt like home, every aspect of our trip was curated to make family travel as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. If you’re looking for a family-friendly resort that offers comfort, convenience, and luxury without the hefty price tag, Nana Resort and Spa is an excellent choice.
